The Philippines
Wayne and Rosie have just completed their first three year ministry term in Samar, the Philippines. Samar is the third largest island in the Philippines ad situated in the eastern part of the archipelago facing the Pacific Ocean. While the island is rich in natural beauty, surrounded by clear tropical waters and small idyllic coral islands, the 3.5 million people of Samar live a far from idyllic lifestyle. The region is typically impoverished, like many parts of South-east Asia and is an unreached area as far as the Gospel is concerned.
The people are known as the Waray Waray, which translated literally means the nothing nothing people. Wayne and Rosie believe that God desires Samar to become a shining light in the Philippines, to make it the head in many ways and not the tail.
Vision and Strategy
First 3 Year Term
- Establish my family
- Learn language and culture
- Strategise and thoroughly explore the land
- Plant 2 churches
Long Term Vision
- In a 6 year period plant at least 10 mother churches
- In a 9 year period plant a total of 70 mother and daughter churches
The strategy is to saturate regional centres with outreaches to form contacts and to start home cell groups and a church plant. A short-term training institute will be set up to produce leaders and pastors. Australian ministry teams are encouraged to come and be involved, particularly in church planting, and would be encouraged to adopt the church they helped to plant as their own.
